Improvisation puts the thinking mind aside allowing for a creative flow, where an actor can be in their body creating more authentic behaviors and moments. Improvisation creates something new, it builds confidence, fosters creativity, and most importantly it is super duper FUN!

In this one day workshop we will explore how the tenants of improv can be beneficial for auditions, commercials, scene study, and more.

This one day intensive will be a deep dive into the basic tools of improvisation and how to utilize these tools for story ideation, character development, creating authentic sounding dialogue, punching up jokes, and breaking through writer’s block. Writers will learn how to trust their subconscious mind and say “yes and…” while taking more risks with their writing.

Structure:

• We will learn and practice the tenets of improv and how they can propel your writing. A mix of fun improv games paired with writing exercises to help you open up! (Yes and, character development, creating authentic dialogue, world-building, story, writing action, and structure)

• Writers will have the opportunity to bring in written pages, ideas or scenarios that we will read and improvise in support of character and story development. We will also have an opportunity to practice thinking on your feet for pitch meetings.

Learning Outcomes:

• Make improvisation a regular part of your writing/filmmaking process.

• Easily and consistently generate new ideas.

• Improve your ability to think on your feet. Great for in-person or remote pitch sessions, writer’s room sessions, punching up jokes on set, and more.

• Remove judgment that keeps you stuck with your writing.
